Pulmonary adenomatosis (Jaagsiekte), known as a sheep disease, caused
by a nowadays not completely identified virus was diagnosed in a pregn
ant goat. Clinically chronic, gradually progressive respiratory sympto
ms (dyspnoea, tachypnoea, coughing), as well as tachycardia (pulse rat
e: 100 to 120/min), anorexia and loss of weight were observed. The pat
hological examination revealed the enlargement of the volume and weigh
t of lungs. Grayish-white, compact foci with a diameter of 0.5 to 3 cm
were observed on the surface and cut surface of lungs. The foci protr
uded over the surface and they were frequently confluent (Fig. 1). The
histological examination revealed alterations characteristic for mult
iplex, bronchoalveolar adenocarcinoma (cavities reminding glandular en
d-duct, covered by polymorph cubical or columnar epithelial cells or c
ellular fascicles); besides, giant cells were also rarely found togeth
er with inflammation and inflammatory cells in the interalveolar tissu
es (Figures 2 to 5). Other organs were intact. In Hungary, this is the
first report on the pulmonary adenomatosis in goal.
