Abstract
The pH of the embryonic blood, one of the most important environmental factors for embryonic cells, was found to range from 8.1 to 8.5 in ch ick embryos until 108 h after incubation. Based on these results, the culture medium adjusted to pH 8.0 was used to culture embryonic chick and quail cells. They were easily subcultured for a long period of tim e at pH 8.0. This pH culture condition may have wide application for m anipulating embryonic cells or tissues and establishing cell lines fro m avian embryos.
