This paper analyzes the feasibility of determining retrospectively, fr
om a neuropediatric standpoint, whether an existing neurological disor
der can be traced back to a perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy,
In principal, we can assume that there is a correlation between this
time and pathogenesis of the brain injury on the one hand and the neur
ological symptoms on the other if these conditions are fulfilled: 1. I
n the first days of live term infants revealed cerebral symptoms (like
abnormality of muscle tone and consciousness and seizures) which mani
fest themselves in a typical sequence and are combined with involvemen
t of other organ systems. In pre-term infants the clinical signs are o
ften not clearly defineable.2. The subsequent neurological disorder af
ter the primary symptoms must be a spastic-less commonly in term infan
ts a dyskinetic one. 3. Lesions typical for the child's gestational ag
e are visible on magnetic resonance imaging.
