Abstract
The acausality, manifest in quantum electrodynamics from the ''off the light cone'' parts of the photon propagator, also appears in the stan dard photon counting theory of quantum optics. The acausal pieces of t he photon amplitudes are sometimes merely thrown away. When all terms in the photon amplitudes are retained, an experimental test of acausal photon counting appears to be within present day technology.
