A CYCLOPHANE BRIDGED BY AN INWARDLY PYRAMIDALIZED OLEFIN

2,8,17-Trithia[4(5,12)][9]metacyclophan-4-ene, a cyclophane with a ter tiary olefin strapped across the face of a benzene ring, has been prep ared and its X-ray structure determined. The olefin is pyramidalized t oward the benzene ring. The X-ray structure of the corresponding satur ated phane (in-2,8,17-trithia[4(5,12)][9]metacyclophane, which was syn thesized previously) has also been determined.
