Abstract
Recent progress in the study of alternative RNA splicing indicates tha t the interaction of RNA-binding proteins with specific target element s modulates splice site recognition and spliceosome assembly. The iden tity of splicing signals, the presence of modulating elements and diff erences in the distribution of RNA-binding proteins are key determinan ts involved in the tissue-specific regulation of splice site selection .
