Me. Page et al., ENTRAPMENT OF COLISTIN INTO POLYHEXYLCYANOACRYLATE NANOPARTICLES - PREPARATION, DRUG-RELEASE AND TISSUE DISTRIBUTION IN MICE, STP pharma sciences, 6(4), 1996, pp. 298-301
The loading of colistin into polyhexylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles was
performed with a high association rate. After freeze drying, the nanop
article preparations showed high stability and the antibacterial activ
ity of colistin was entirely maintained The release rate of colistin,
along with the degradation of the polymer matrix, were studied in the
presence of carboxyl-esterase. The in vivo distribution (liver, spleen
, lungs, kidneys, serum and urine) of free and nanoparticles associate
d colistin was investigated in mice after intravenous injection. The c
olistin loaded nanoparticles were able to concentrate the antibiotic i
n the organs of the reticuloendothelial system and especially in the l
iver. The excretion of colistin by the kidneys was greatly reduced by
the association with nanoparticles.
