Abstract
Recent progress in lattice dynamics, based on the path integral formul ation of statistical mechanics, is reviewed from a historical perspect ive. The improved effective potential theory is described and a detail ed application to solid Ne is presented. The work is based on a neares t neighbor Mie-Lennard-Jones potential and contact is made with earlie r theories based on the same potential.
