The purpose of the present investigation is to establish a relation be
tween acid equivalents and the atomic [O]/[O] ratio of regenerated hum
ic acids. A linear relationship is found to exist between acid equival
ents and atomic [O]/[C] ratio of regenerated humic acids. Correlation
coefficients for equations relating acid equivalent produced by variou
s methods (namely titration, ion-exchange and formation of copper salt
) with the atomic [O]/[C] ratio ranged between 0.91-1.00 on a dry-ash-
free basis and 0.94-0.97 on a dry-mineral matter-free basis.
