A histochemical study using conventional and lectin methods was perfor
med on the stomach of fasting and feeding adults of Tilapia spp. A bat
tery of HRP-conjugated lectins combined with exoglycosidase digestion
was used. The differences found in the epithelium, gastric pits and ga
stric glands between fasting and feeding subjects were related to the
functional stages of the organ. Carbohydrate composition was also comp
