Abstract
By means of simultaneous gamma-ray, X-ray and electron Mossbauer spect roscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy a diagnostic study of the surface and near-surface region of a uniaxial ferrimagnetic monocryst al of BaO . 6Fe(2)O(3) was carried out. The existence of a structurall y and therefore magnetically perturbed layer with a thickness of at le ast an order of magnitude less than that of classical antiferromagnets was found.
