Pb. Wilkinson et al., DISTRIBUTION OF SCARRED EIGENFUNCTIONS IN A QUANTUM-WELL WITH CHAOTICCLASSICAL DYNAMICS PROBED BY RESONANT-TUNNELING, Physica. B, Condensed matter, 227(1-4), 1996, pp. 192-196
Magnetotunnelling spectroscopy is used to probe experimentally electro
nic wave functions scarred by classic trajectories in a classically ch
aotic system. The system comprises an electron moving in a 22 nm GaAs
quantum well of a double barrier resonant tunnelling diode in the pres
ence of large tilted magnetic fields. Resonant peaks in the current-vo
ltage characteristics are shown to originate from dominant tunnelling
transitions into the subset of scarred states in the quantum well.
