We consider the diffusion rate of the sum and the difference phases of
the two circularly polarized modes in a laser operating on a J = 1 --
> J = 0 transition in a polarization-isotropic resonator. It is shown
that these diffusion rates have different characteristics; while the d
iffusion rate of the sum phase follows the generalized Schawlow-Townes
equation, the diffusion rate of the difference phase displays singula
r behaviour.
