Ss. Umare et al., STUDIES ON SUBSTITUTED DERIVATIVES OF POLYANILINE - EFFECT OF POLYMERIZATION CONDITIONS ON ELECTRICAL-CONDUCTIVITY, Journal of macromolecular science. Pure and applied chemistry, A33, 1996, pp. 381-389
Polyaniline, poly(o-methoxyaniline)and poly(N-phenylaniline) were synt
hesized chemically under different polymerization conditions by peroxo
disulphate oxidation in HCl and in a mixture of HCl and CH3CN. The pol
ymer prepared at 0 degrees C, monomer-oxidant ratio 1:1.15 and a stron
g acidic medium, has the least bandgap and maximum electrical conducti
vity. The electrical conductivity depends on degree of oxidation and p
rotonation. The bulky substituents increase the torsion angle and henc
e disorder causes the decrease in the electrical conductivity of polym
er.
