The cutaneous lymphatic drainage of the thenar eminence was studied in
seven fall-term fetuses submitted to injection with Gerota's stain mo
dified by Caplan. Observations permitted description of two lymphatic
vias passing out of the hand, one antero-lateral and another antero-me
dial via in the forearm. These lymphatic vessels continued into the ar
m in three pathways: cephalic, bicipital and basilic. The bicipital an
d basilic lymphatic circulation drained to the anterior group of axill
ary lymph nodes or to the lateral thoracic lymph nodes.
