H. Wu et al., SEPARATION OF LANTHANIDE BETA-DIKETONATES VIA ORGANOPHOSPHORUS ADDUCTFORMATION BY SUPERCRITICAL-FLUID CHROMATOGRAPHY, Analytical chemistry, 68(22), 1996, pp. 4072-4075
This paper describes a novel method for separation and detection of la
nthanide beta-diketonates by adduct formation/supercritical fluid chro
matography (SFC) with an open-tubular capillary column and a FID detec
tor. Separation of lanthanide beta-diketonates cannot be achieved by S
FC due to the hydration of the complexes, which cannot be achieved by
SFC due to the hydratin of the complexes, which exhibit strong intermo
lecular interactions and decomposition in the system. Formation of add
ucts of lanthanide beta-diketonates with a neutral donor, tributylphos
phine oxide (TBPO) or trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO), alters their SFC
behavior. The adduct formation approach leads to the first successful
separation of lanthanide complexes of the same beta-diketone ligand b
y SFC using neat CO(2)as the mobile phase.
