Abstract
The role of solvent interactions in modifying the electronegativity (c hi) and hardness (eta) of bonded atoms has been studied. The simple vi rtual charge model of a homogeneous polar medium was chosen for the de scription of the solvent properties. Molecular chi and eta indices sho w minor dependences on the solvent polarity. The hardness of ions decr eases with increasing solvent polarity whereas the electronegativity i ndex decreases for cations and increases for anions.
