H. Yasuda et al., DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENTS OF PLATINUM-GROUP METALS BETWEEN SOIL SOLIDAND LIQUID-PHASES, Environmental technology, 17(10), 1996, pp. 1151-1154
Distribution coefficients (K(d)s) of platinum group metals (Rh, Ir,and
Pt) were measured by a batch technique for agricultural soils collect
ed in Japan using a multitracer solution containing their radioisotope
s (Rh-101, Ir-189, and Pt-191). The radioisotopes were produced by irr
adiating a gold foil with a N-24 beam accelerated to 135 MeV/nucleon i
n the RIKEN Ring Cyclotron. The probability distributions of these nuc
lide K(d)s were not normal type distributions but log-normal ones. The
K(d)s of Pt were larger than those of Rh and Ir and the K(d)s of Rh h
ad larger variability compared to that of Ir. The K(d)s of Rh and Ir h
ad adequate correlations with selected soil properties relating to day
minerals such as activated aluminum content. For the platinum K(d)s,
no good correlation was found with any soil properties examined.
