GERMANY POSITION ON THE RANKING LIST OF R EPOSITORIES

The underground laboratory in the Asse research mine, and the Morslebe n, Konrad, and Gorleben repository projects for many years ensured for Germany one of the top positions on the international list of reposit ories. Many reasons most of them of a political, legal or administrati ve nature, have produced such a delay in disposal in Germany that this leading position has been lost. Other countries, such as Sweden, Finl and France, Canada, and, in part, the United States of America, have c aught up with Germany or even outpaced it. Proposals are put up for di scussion about ways and means of recovering this loss.
