Abstract
Due to the reprocessing techniques, waste for the final repository ma) , indeed be considered as high-tech products. They fulfill remarkable controls regarding the quality, security, flexibility and environmenta l conditions. This technology is to a great part based upon important R + D programs and further tests to reach optimal results of waste tre atment and reduction of waste are still ongoing. More and more nuclear power stations are being run with Mox fuel. 18 pressurised water reac tors (PWR) running with a 30% Mox fuel core are already in use, and re actors are actually being developed which can be loaded 100% with Mox fuel. In view of future energy needs, the Reprocessing, Conditioning a nd Recycling-Strategy offers a useful industrial solution for the long term use of nuclear energy.
