The extended glow curve generated on heating a thick TL dosemeter cont
ains information about the distribution of dose in the mass. A method
is described through which the one-dimensional distribution of dose is
determined. The method involves irradiation on alternate ends of the
dosemeter and construction of a matrix of interpolated glow curves rep
resenting the light which would be emitted from each elemental mass as
a function of time. The method is general in that it applies to any g
low curve shape and any heating profile. Operation of the method invol
ves deconvolution of the data to report the result The Marquardt algor
ithm has been used to demonstrate the operation of the method for pene
trating gamma rays, monoenergetic X rays, and fast electrons from a Va
n de Graaff accelerator.
