The organ and effective doses computed with a new flexible program wer
e compared in four X ray examinations with the doses determined with L
F TL detectors in an Alderson-Rando phantom. The correlation between t
he two methods was rather good (within 25%) for most results of the co
mparisons (75% of 45 results), but rather poor (discrepancy up to 140%
) for the low and high density organs (lung, bone). An upward trend wa
s also obtained for the doses to colon and some other organs. The reas
ons for the discrepancies were thought to be due to the approximate de
nsity and attenuation corrections of the computer program for bone and
lung tissues.
