Abstract
The chemical characterisation of compounds present in the coating of b irch pollen are described. Five fractions were prepared containing the compounds grouped according to their polarity. The major compounds fo und were n-alkanes (C17-C31) and n-alkenes (C25:1-C31:1) these account ed for approximately 80% of the extractable compounds. Other groups of compounds that were tentatively identified were methylketones, ethers , alcohols, and amino alcohols.
