Abstract
We present an original method to study the circular birefringence (CB) and circular dichroism (CD) of magnetic liquid materials placed in lo w sinusoidal magnetic fields. CB and CD are measured simultaneously us ing the same apparatus. Many results obtained with the ferrofluid Fe2C oO4 in dibutylphthalate (DBP) are reported and discussed: 'Faraday rot ation' and 'Faraday ellipticity' versus magnetic field amplitude, magn etic field frequency, volume concentration. CB and CD are non-reciproc al effects. This property is involved in this new dynamic method.
