Abstract
A new, inherently flexible, predominantly alpha-helical RNA binding mo tif has been detected in two rather conserved ribosomal proteins. Comp arative studies prompt the suggestion that these ribosomal proteins ar e the ancestors of this new helix-turn-helix fold, also found in homeo domains.
