We developed a method of qualitative and quantitative GC-MS analysis o
f polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in soil samples, to be able to dete
rmine the biodegradation efficiency for individual PCBs. C-13(12)-Subs
tituted PCB 153 was used as internal standard. The analyses were perfo
rmed on a DB-5 capillary column. The identification procedure was base
d on the correlation analysis of the measured and published relative r
etention r(12) data using [C-13(12)]PCB 153 instead of octachloronapht
halene (OCN). [C-13]PCB 153 was also used for quantification of indivi
dual PCBs in soil samples.
