Sk. Lyo, MAGNETIC QUENCHING OF BACK SCATTERING IN COUPLED DOUBLE-QUANTUM WIRES- GIANT MOBILITY ENHANCEMENT, Journal of physics. Condensed matter, 8(46), 1996, pp. 703-710
We show theoretically that the low-temperature mobility and conductanc
e of thin double quantum wires formed from coupled double quantum well
s can be enhanced by orders of magnitude by an applied magnetic field
of a few tesla. This enhancement is caused by quenching of the intrawi
re back scattering which occurs when the Fermi level falls within the
partial energy gap. The gap is created by the anticrossing of the ener
gy dispersion curves of two quantum wires which are displaced relative
to each other by the field.
