Abstract
We use a model, adopted from the theory of core-hole spectra, to expla in the experimentally observed double-peak structures in quantum-well exciton spectra. We also rule out the hypotheses of the peak-splitting being due to any of the following effects: strong electric fields in the sample, doping charge accumulation in the well walls and structure s in the well due to the doping-induced deformation of the well potent ial.
