Abstract
Seven cases of acute intestinal intussusception requiring emergency su rgical treatment are reported. These cases accounted for 1.7% of all c ases of intestinal obstruction treated surgically over a ten-year peri od at the Yaounde Central Hospital. Mean age was 42 years, Preoperativ e diagnosis was difficult in the four patients with sub-acute symptoms at presentation, The remaining three patients presented with acute sy mptoms, Intestinal resection was required in every case. An intestinal tumor was found in three patients, whereas no cause was detectable in four patients. The pathology, diagnosis, and management of this rare condition are reviewed.
