Computer simulations of positron lifetime spectra for copper containin
g thermally generated vacancies have been carried out in order to comp
are the effectiveness of three fitting programs: Positronfit, Resoluti
on and a new one LT used for deconvolution of the spectra. The compari
son has shown that the deconvolution of the spectra using the LT progr
am gives better results. Deviation of the resolution function from the
input one leads to a nonlinear temperature dependence of the calculat
ed bulk lifetime in the vacancy region. So, the authors believe that t
he nonlinear dependence observed sometimes in the experiment may be an
artifact of the fitting procedure, caused by an underestimate of the
full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the resolution function.
