K. Ikejiri et al., PSEUDOMYXOMA PERITONEI CONCOMITANT WITH EARLY GASTRIC-CANCER - REPORTOF A CASE, SURGERY TODAY-THE JAPANESE JOURNAL OF SURGERY, 26(11), 1996, pp. 923-925
The preoperative diagnosis of both appendiceal carcinoma and pseudomyx
oma peritonei is difficult because of the nonspecific nature of the as
sociated symptoms. More than 50% of all patients with carcinoma of the
appendix are diagnosed with and treated for acute appendicitis. In ad
dition, there have been few reports on patients with an appendiceal ca
rcinoma or pseudomyxoma peritonei in association with other synchronou
s or metachronous malignancies of the alimentary tract. We herein repo
rt the first known patient with synchronous early gastric cancer and p
seudomyxoma peritonei, in which the origin was correctly identified pr
eoperatively.
