Abstract
A case of simultaneous infection with HIV and HCV characterized by a r apidly progressive clinical course was studied retrospectively over 3. 5 years. Molecular analysis indicated interference between HIV and HCV and between HCV subtypes 1a and 1b. An ineffective immune response wa s suggested by the persistence and sequence conservation of the HCV HV R1 variants isolated during the follow-up. (C) 1996 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
