Abstract
Plastics are usually used as design materials. First and foremost, thi s requires good mechanical properties and good processability. So-call ed ''functional plastics'' must be considered from a completely differ ent angle. Apart from the right mechanical properties, they also offer special physical and chemical properties, which can be selectively mo dified and are opening up completely new applications.
