H. Momose et al., XPS ANALYSIS FOR LITHIUM SURFACE AFTER EL ECTRODEPOSITION AND ANODIC-DISSOLUTION, Denki Kagaku Oyobi Kogyo Butsuri Kagaku, 64(11), 1996, pp. 1174-1179
The surface of Lithium electrode after electrodeposition and anodic di
ssolution was analyzed with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). LI
F, LiOH, and Li2O were detected in lithium electrodeposited on chromiu
m substrate in 1 M LiPF6/EC+DME. It was found that Li2CO3 was produced
on lithium when it was exposed to air during sample transfer from ele
ctrolysis cell to the XPS apparatus. So using transfer vessel is effec
tive for analysis of lithium without air contamination. The analysis o
f the surface after electrical dissolution indicated that LIF formed o
n lithium did not dissolve in electrolysis, and formed passivating fil
m and isolated inactive lithium.
