The aluminum negative electrode for the secondary battery with an AlCl
3-1-butylpyridinium chloride molten salt electrolyte has been develope
d. The active material, binder, and conductor far the battery were inv
estigated to improve the Al negative electrode performance. The optimu
m conditions in the present study were: Al powder of 180 mu m average
particle size as the active material, PTFE as the binder, and graphite
fiber of 130 mu m length for the conductor. By the SEM photograph, th
ese components were connected skillfully. When their optimum contents
of 78.0wt% Al powder, 11.7wt% PTFE, and 10.4wt% graphite fiber were ap
plied, the discharge capacity showed about 140mAh . g(-1), and the cyc
le efficiency and cycle life were 100% up to 50 cycles and 85 cycles,
respectively.
