Abstract
The objective of this research work is to optimise the milling operati ons when machining prismatic components. This paper describes a new GT based coding scheme which represents the surfaces to be machined of p rismatic components. Thus the code can provide input data to a user-fr iendly expert system to generate more effective process plans. By util ising the proposed GT code, current databases and process planning kno wledge, the further development of a generative CAPP system on a PC pl atform will enable a company to expand and modify the system to optimi se its current machining facilities.
