S. Akter et Msj. Hashmi, HIGH-SPEED NYLON COATING OF WIRE USING A PLASTO-HYDRODYNAMIC PRESSUREUNIT, Journal of materials processing technology, 63(1-3), 1997, pp. 453-457
A process known as plasto-hydrodynamic wife coating has been developed
in which polymer melts are used as pressure medium in a stepped paral
lel bore pressure unit. The wire size is less than the smallest bore o
f the pressure unit. The wire coating thickness and quality depend on
the wire speed, polymer viscosity, polymer melt temperature and gap be
tween the wire and the die. In this paper results of experimental inve
stigation are presented comparing the coating quality on galvanized mi
ld steel wire when molten Nylon 6 is used as the coating material at d
ifferent temperatures and back pressures. Also the coating thickness a
nd quality are discussed for different wire speeds of upto 12 meter pe
r second.
