X. Liu et al., SPIN-WAVE HYBRIDIZATION AND MAGNETIC ANISOTROPIES IN A THICK BCC COBALT FILM, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 54(17), 1996, pp. 11903-11906
Magnetic anisotropies of a 357 Angstrom thick Co film were examined us
ing Brillouin light scattering. The Co has bcc structure, and was foun
d to have a significant fourfold anisotropy in addition to a strong un
iaxial anisotropy. This film is one of the thickest bce to structures
and we find that the surface and n=1 bulk spin waves have comparable f
requencies and are strongly mixed. Unusual behavior of the scattering
intensities suggest the possible presence of inhomogeneous internal fi
elds that result in a different dependence for the bulk mode frequenci
es on field orientation than for the surface mode.
