Protons and alpha-particles emitted from Ar-36 levels following the be
ta-decay of K-36 (T-1/2 = 0.34 s) have been investigated. Delayed part
icles were detected using a surface barrier detector and a Microchanne
l plate in a back-to-back geometry. Five new proton groups and eight n
ew alpha-particle groups at E(p) = 623, 1169, 1199, 1272, 1409 keV and
E(alpha) = 1522, 1562, 1963, 2982, 3613, 3748, 3849, 4086 keV were id
entified. Particle branching ratios and corresponding upper limits for
the log ft values of the precursor beta(+) transitions were calculate
d, The observed particle groups were assigned to excited levels in Ar-
36. Ratios of partial widths for proton and alpha-particle emission co
uld be determined for two levels in Ar-36. New evidence for spin-parit
y assignments is presented. One of the new delayed alpha-particle grou
ps corresponds to a previously unknown natural-parity state near the p
roton threshold in Ar-36. The implications for the explosive hydrogen
burning of Cl-35 are discussed.
