Atomic arrangements of grown-in antiphase boundaries (APBs) in Fe3Al b
ased alloy were observed by means of high resolution electron microsco
py. According to the continuity of Fe and Al sublattices across the AP
Bs in different crystallographic planes, all observed APBs were identi
fied as next-nearest neighbour types. When observed edge-on, the grown
-in APBs are very thin. The comparison of the contrast of the atomic c
olumns in the close vicinity of the APBs and the interior of the domai
ns indicates sharp, un-relaxed grown-in domain walls. (C) 1996. Publis
