Ca. Spell et al., HYBRID WAVE MODEL FOR UNIDIRECTIONAL IRREGULAR WAVES .2. COMPARISON WITH LABORATORY MEASUREMENTS, Applied ocean research, 18(2-3), 1996, pp. 93-110
Numerical predictions of irregular wave elevations and velocities base
d on the hybrid wave model are compared with two sets of laboratory me
asurements and are also compared with the related predictions by linea
r random wave theory and its 'stretching' and 'extrapolation' modifica
tions. The satisfactory agreement between the numerical results of the
hybrid wave model and the related experimental measurements indicates
that the hybrid wave model, especially near steep wave crests, can pr
edict irregular wave elevation and velocities more accurately and more
reliably than those methods commonly used by the offshore industry. C
