Abstract
The author presents a simple algorithm for generating the distance spe ctrum and multiplicities of convolutional codes. It is different from the existing methods in that no topological searching or matrix invers ion is involved. Instead, the method presented consists of the recursi on of a set of difference equations with a properly selected operation al sequence. The computational cost of the new algorithm can be easily predicted and is modest.
