The interaction of s[o-(diphenylphosphino)benzylidene]ethylenediamine
(immpho) with one and two equivalents of [(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))Ru(CH3CN)(
3)](+) (generated in situ from the reaction of [(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))RuCl
2](n) with excess Zn granular in CH3CN) in CH3CN at room temperature g
ave [(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))Ru(immpho)](2)[ZnCl4] (I) and {[(eta(5)-C(5)Me(
5))Ru(CH3CN)](2)[immpho]}{ZnCl4} (II) 80% and 71% yield, respectively.
Upon UV irradiation, immpho reacted with equal molar of [(eta(5)C(5)H
(5))Fe(eta(6)-mesitylene)][BF4] in CH3CN at room temperature to eve [(
eta(5)-C5H5)Fe(immpho)][BF4] (III) in 41% yield. Compounds I-III have
been fully characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods. The
structures of II and III have been established by X-ray diffraction. C
