Three types of tridentate binucleating Schiff base ligands have been s
ynthesised by condensation of 5,5'-methylenebis-salicylaldehyde with a
minoalcohols, aminoacids or aminoethylpyridine. These ligands have two
sets of tridentate phenolate O-, azomethine N and O-, COO- or pyridyl
nitrogen coordination sites. The binuclear Cu-II complexes of these l
igands have been prepared and their spectral, magnetic and electrochem
ical properties have been studied. On the basis of these experimental
results long range spin exchange interaction between two copper centre
s has been indicated. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
