M. Castro et al., EFFECT OF ZEOLITE ON SWILL DIETS AND CONCENTRATE FEED WITH SACCHARINAFOR FATTENING PIGS, Cuban journal of agricultural science, 30(2), 1996, pp. 177-180
One hundred and twenty pigs from the Duroc Yorkshire x Hampshire cross
bred with an initial live weight of 30 kg were used to study the effec
t including zeolite in diets of Feed with Saccharina and swill for fat
tening pigs by a completely randomized design. Animals were distribute
d in 5 treatments: 1) feed with Saccharina without zeolite; 2) 95 % of
the feeding standard with Saccharina + 5 % f zeolite; 3) 100 % of the
feeding standard with Saccharina + 5 % of zeolite; 4) 90 % of the fee
ding standard with Saccharins + 10 % of zeolite and 5) 100 % of the fe
eding standard with Saccharins + 10 % of zeolite. Differences in perfo
rmance were not found with respect to the treatments where the feed wa
s replaced by zeolite. When the treatment with 100 % of the standard 5 % zeolite was applied the live weight daily gain improved significa
ntly as well as the conversion with respect to the control. It is conf
irmed that 5 % zeolite is an adequate level for this type diet and its
inclusion may be either by substitution by addition to the type of fe
ed used.
