A single-electron molecular transistor is implemented at room temperat
ure on the basis of a stable Langmuir monomolecular film consisting of
a mixture of stearic acid and carborane clusters. Control of the tunn
eling current with the aid of an independent voltage source is recorde
d at room temperature. The results are compared with the ''orthodox''
theory of single-charge electronics. (C) 1996 American Institute of Ph
