The time series of the earth's rotation rate, eastern equatorial Pacif
ic sea surface temperature (T-ss), sea level pressure (P-sl) and atmos
pheric angular momentum (M(aa)) during 1976-1989 rue used to study the
relation between atmosphere earth angular momentum exchange and ENSO
cycle. The result shows that (i) there are synergetic relationships am
ong the variations of solid earth's rotation, eastern equatorial Pacif
ic T, P-sl, different latitude zonal M(aa) and global M(aa); (ii) loca
l atmosphere-ocean interaction over low-latitude area can form ENSO-li
ke cycle through Hadley circulation; (iii) the solid earth and global
atmosphere-ocean interaction can form some aperiodic behavior and asyn
chronous oscillations by mountain torque and earth spin anomalous fric
tion torque acting on each component of solid earth-ocean-atmosphere s
ystem; and (iv) actual ENSO cycle is a phenomenon reflecting in Pacifi
c basin through interaction among solid earth, global ocean and the at
mosphere.
