Abstract
The age hardening of 6061-based metal matrix composites containing var ious types of reinforcement and produced by both rheocasting and prefo rm infiltration has been investigated. It is shown that there is no re al effect of the processing route on age hardening of these materials whatever the ageing temperature. Reinforcement size effects have also been investigated for particulate reinforcements and it is shown that, for particulates larger than 3 mu m, mechanical effects dominate over those due to microstructure.
