High spin states in Sn-109 have been established up to 9.1 MeV in exci
tation energy and to a spin of 43/2(-)HBAR with the reaction Mo-94(F-1
9,p3n)Sn-109 at a beam energy of 88 MeV. In-beam measurements involved
gamma-gamma coincidences and directional correlation of oriented stat
es. A negative-parity band consisting of stretched E2 transitions has
been established. This band has been identified as the favored signatu
re branch of the decoupled h(11/2) neutron coupled to the deformed pi(
g(9/2)(-2)Xg(7/2)(2)) core configuration.
