ACUTE INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS-AUREUS AFTER PERCUTANEOUS BALLOON MITRAL VALVOTOMY

We examined an 80-year-old carpenter with acute infective endocarditis due to Staphylococcus aureus occurring 3 years after percutaneous bal loon mitral valvotomy, one of among 39 cases who underwent the procedu re from 1991 to 1994. Ne had mild mitral regurgitation after the proce dure, and traumatic injury was considered as the responsible factor, H e died of a brain abscess and multiorgan failures, Infective endocardi tis should be considered a potential complication after percutaneous b alloon mitral commissurotomy.
